Project
Great Marlborough Street
Client

Location
Manchester
This development comprises 87 apartments on an infill corner site adjacent to the busy Oxford Road railway station. Occupying the totality of its 400sqm site the proposal seeks to complete the street walls of Great Marlborough Street and New Wakefield Street, and present a gateway along Station Approach from the City. It rises 21 floors from its street defining podium emerging above the viaduct which carries the railway in an stepped and sheared form, presenting an elegant profile from distance.
Commercial / retail space provides active use at street level with the remaining 20 floors accommodating a mixture of 66% two bed apartments and 33% single and studio bed units. The building’s parti of responding to the scale of the street and that of the city is reflected in it’s materiality with a solid terracotta clad plinth addressing the street edges and forming a base for an anodised aluminium clad cellular arrangement of apartments above.
