Jon Davies

Jon graduated from University in 1997 having studied architecture at the Leeds School of Architecture and the Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza” in Italy, and became a member of the Royal Institute of Architects in 1998. Having worked for practices in the UK and abroad, including Sottsass Associati DVA and Sheppard Robson, Jon joined Hodder Associates in Oct 2006, becoming an Associate shortly afterwards.

Jon’s experience is wide ranging having worked on the ‘front end’ of projects within most industry sectors including Science, Healthcare, Education, Transport and Housing with projects ranging in size from masterplanning to private houses. This experience was gained on projects mainly within the UK, however Jon has also practised in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Recently he has focused on sustainable architecture and taught this subject at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Project Experience

Chapel Wharf
The development of masterplan for the Chapel Wharf area of Salford, connecting former industrial areas with the River Irwell and Manchester City centre. The masterplan developed permeable links though the development and created new strategic pedestrian and walkways and spaces. The commission included Phase 1 of the masterplan mainly 2 residential blocks one of which is 42 storeys.

Breslyn Street
This project concisted of 2 sites either side of Breslyn Street, adjacent to the MEN Arena, with residential use proposed on both sites. The 2 buildings, one 19 storey the other 13 provided 139 apartments as well as parking and ground floor retail areas.

The Interchange – Shudehill
A new 11 storey building in the Shudehill area of Manchester adjacent to the Shudehill Transport Interchange, the proposal included a 300 bed 4* hotel, with retail areas and alterations to the existing tram station. This site also incorporated a Grade II listed building.

Blackpool Masterplan
A collaboration with the Landscape Architects, Planit, we were asked to provide concept ideas for 3 sites in Blackpool which formed part of a new urban regeneration plan for the North Shore area of Blackpool town centre. The sites included a new entertainment complex, markets, department store, residential, commercial areas with the former general post office, a Grade II listed building, converted to form a new boutique hotel.
